10+ Best Free Next.js Templates to Build Fast & Responsive Websites

Finding a good free Next.js template is not hard. Finding one that is actually maintained, well-structured, and worth building on that takes more digging.

We reviewed 12 free Next.js templates across five categories: SaaS/startup landing pages, admin dashboards, blogs, portfolios, and boilerplates. For each template, we looked at code quality, last update date, GitHub activity, documentation, and how easy it is to customize for a real project.

A few of our own templates made this list. Where they did, we have noted what they are good for and where they fall short the same standard we applied to every other option here.

How we evaluated these templates

Before we get into the list, here is what we looked at:

• Tech stack: Next.js version compatibility, Tailwind CSS vs other styling, TypeScript support
• Last updated: A template that has not been touched in 18 months is a liability, not a shortcut
• GitHub stars and activity: A rough signal of community trust and ongoing maintenance
• Pages included: How much does the template actually give you out of the box?
• License: MIT or equivalent, so you can use it freely in personal and commercial projects
• Documentation: Is there a README or docs that help you get started quickly?
• Customization flexibility: How easy is it to change layouts, colors, fonts, and components without fighting the template's structure?
• Performance: We checked Lighthouse scores and looked at how templates handle images, fonts, and JavaScript loading.
• Community and support availability: GitHub issues, Discord servers, active maintainers, and community activity all matter. A template with no community around it means you are on your own when something breaks.

We did not rank these templates #1 through #12 in strict order. The right template depends entirely on what you are building. So we have grouped them by use case instead.

Free Next.js SaaS and startup templates

These are best for product landing pages, marketing sites, and early-stage SaaS products.

Andromeda Light NextJS

Best for: SaaS companies and marketing agencies that want a polished, content-rich landing page.

Andromeda Light is built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS. It includes a blog, a features section, pricing, testimonials, and a contact page, most of what a SaaS marketing site needs out of the box. The design is clean and modern without being generic.

What we like: Good component structure, easy to customize with Tailwind, and actively maintained. The blog setup works well for content marketing.

Worth knowing: It is a light version of a premium theme, so some design elements are simplified compared to the paid counterpart.

Best for: B2B software companies and agencies needing a professional landing page fast.

Bigspring Light is a straightforward, responsive business template built with Next.js. It covers the essentials hero, features, testimonials, pricing, and blog in a layout that works well for B2B audiences.

What we like: Clean, distraction-free layout. Fast to set up. Good starting point if you want something professional without a lot of design complexity.

Worth knowing: Less visual personality than some other options. Better as a base to build on than to use as-is.

Startup - Free Next.js Startup and SaaS Website Template

Best for: Developers who want a well-maintained open-source SaaS starter with strong community support.

Startup is one of the most actively maintained free Next.js templates available. It was updated to Next.js 16 in December 2025 and supports Tailwind CSS v4. It includes all the core sections features, testimonials, pricing, FAQ and comes with TypeScript support.

What we like: The update cadence is impressive. This is a template someone is actually maintaining, not one that was released and forgotten. The GitHub repository has strong star activity and regular commits.

Worth knowing: Not from Themefisher this is a third-party template. We included it because it genuinely belongs on this list.

What we like: Purpose-built for SaaS use cases. The layout prioritizes clarity and conversion without unnecessary visual noise.

Worth knowing: Like most free Themefisher templates, it is a lighter version of a premium theme. The core pages are there, but more advanced sections are in the paid version.

What we like: The depth of what's included is unmatched for a free template, which is full auth, billing, and an admin dashboard in one package, saving weeks of setup work.

Worth knowing: Open SaaS is built on Wasp, a full-stack framework that adds its own learning curve. If you're not familiar with Wasp, factor in some extra ramp-up time before diving in.

What we like: 100+ pre-built components for free is genuinely rare, you get a large design-ready building block set at no cost.

Worth knowing: The free version is MIT-licensed, but Creative Tim offers paid tiers for larger commercial use cases, so check their license page if you're building a platform or reselling.

NextMerce

Best for: Developers building a Next.js storefront who want Stripe, Algolia, and Sanity CMS pre-integrated.

What we like: The pre-integrated Stripe and Algolia stack is production-grade; it's built to scale, not just a design mockup.

What we like: The component library is genuinely extensive. You are not just getting a dashboard shell you get enough UI building blocks to cover most admin use cases without reaching for another component library.

Worth knowing: The sheer size of the component set means there is a learning curve to understanding the structure. Allow time to explore before you start customizing.

Best for: Developers who want a production-grade boilerplate with the full developer toolchain set up.

What we like: The tooling setup alone is worth it. If you care about code quality and want a project that is already set up for testing and linting, this saves hours.

Worth knowing: This is a boilerplate, not a design template. You are getting a blank-ish starting point with an excellent developer experience not ready-to-use pages.

Which template is right for you?

Here is a simple way to decide:

• Building a SaaS landing page? Start with Andromeda Light, Startup, or Nicktio.
• Building an admin dashboard or internal tool? TailAdmin is the most complete free option.
• Building a developer blog or personal writing site? The Bookworm Light Nextjs is the most proven choice.
• Building a personal portfolio? The Portfolio template from NextJS Templates is quick and clean.
• Starting a full-stack product from scratch? Look at the TS Next.js Tailwind Starter for the best developer experience, or Play Next.js if you need auth and payments from day one.

What to look for before committing to any template

A few things worth checking before you build on any free template:

Last commit date. A template that has not been updated in over a year is likely running on an older version of Next.js. This matters for App Router compatibility, image optimization, and security patches.

Next.js version. The App Router (introduced in Next.js 13) changed how Next.js projects are structured significantly. Make sure the template uses the architecture that matches your project.

TypeScript support. If your team works in TypeScript, look for templates that are built in TypeScript from the start. Converting a JavaScript template later is painful.

License. Most well-known free templates use an MIT license, which allows personal and commercial use. Always check before building a client project on any template.

Documentation. A GitHub README that explains how to install, configure, and deploy the template is a minimum bar. No documentation usually means no support either.
